The Justice League magazine is written and edited by Kimie Thomas, Litzy Serna, Brandon Hatch, and Brady Carlson. The magazine's main purpose is to inform the public about social justice issues that are happening today. Although every page has a different social issue discussed they all promote awareness. Each writer chose a unique way to interpret their topic, and provided different mediums. Below is a brief explanation of the project displayed separately within the magazine.
The projects chosen for the magazine.
Kimie, the Managing Editor, chose to study mental illnesses as her social justice this semester. There are many reason mental illnesses stood out to her as a subject study for Kimie one of the reason why was because she deals with it everyday. Kimie's two sibling both have a mental illnesses, making it a common issue she is faced with. By studying mental illnesses she was given the opportunity to study and truly understand her siblings and many others around her as they fight through their mental illnesses. Kimie chose to display her profile, information effect, and persuasion projects. Kimie also added a few of her notebooks onto her page creating a continues flow for the reader to enjoy. Kimie picked these three project specifically because she learned most by creating these projects. By creating the profile Kimie was deeply inspired and was reassured that mental illness was the social justice issue she needed to explore. Many of Kimie's projects were in slideshow formats causing a problem for her magazine. She ended up translating her information effect project from a slideshow format to a text based format. Her information effect project before being transformed had so many words, making readers just skip through slides not reading the text fully. Kimie had random facts and pictures everywhere causing confusion about the projects meaning. Although slideshow presentations can be more appealing to the eye, a text based format portrayed the message of suicide a lot clearer for her audience. She transformed her piece by added more translations, making the paper flow and it also took out a lot of unnecessary text out. By writing these projects Kimie's view of mental illnesses started to get darker and darker as she learned more and more. But she also became a lot more interested in the subject and that helped her stay motivated throughout the semester. Kimie enjoyed the opportunity she was given to dive into the subject of mental illnesses. She hopes that everyone now has a new view and will begin to reach out to those struggling to continue their fights against mental illnesses.
As the Managing Editor Kimie was in charge of making sure each group member was doing what was asked, organize a time for group members to work and to revise groups work before turning in. Our group did most of the work for our magazine project during class time making managing time easy for Kimie. Each group member has a different busy high school student schedule creating many conflicts. But our group came together and got the project done.

Litzy, the Visual Editor, included her Persuasion Effect Project, Profile, as well as her Translation/Adaption on her Informative Effect Project. She focused on showed the different perspectives on creating awareness toward her issue and provided different mediums to display her work/research. You can find a variety of concepts on her page as well as different view points from an example of someone who was discriminated to statistics and facts about racial discrimination.
Her work was straight forward, unique, and interesting. She provided several interesting facts and did a great job on displaying her coursework. She fulfilled her duties as a team member and put in a great amount of effort towards this magazine project. To found out more interesting facts check out my notebooks! |
Brandon, the Research Editor, included his persuasion effect project, memoir, translation to her informative effect project and a notebook. He focused on creating a environment that was easy to understand. He also focused on the main goal, preventing cyberbullying and suicide. In all of his work he put lots of statistics, examples, videos and important information. You will find out that a lot of this work was based off of websites and peoples knowledge about cyberbullying. You will come to realize that cyberbullying is all around you and that we need to find a cure of it or else it will keep growing. At the bottom of the page you will find a hotline where you can make a call at anytime for any additional help at all. Hope you enjoy all it.

The Editing Chief, Brady Carlson, chose to write on sensitivity itself. In his mind, the subject of sensitive issues must have some foot in the full realm of how sensitive people are, and that thought led him down the path of insensitive and oversensitive people in the world today. The various levels of sensitivity can link together things such as soldier massacres in third world countries to the creation of college ¨safe zones¨. The possible benefits to finding a true balance in yourself in this simple respect can mitigate many other things.
As an Editing Chief Brady went through each project submitted to the group forum and tried to do his best to make suggestions to each author about their work. While a picture is worth a thousand words a word can have a thousand meanings, and it is important that an author chooses his words carefully as after the work is released it cannot be changed. |
We have all came together very well, we are all fulfilling our part and working well together. All of us worked extremely hard. Our editor, Brady has helped us see what mistakes we have made and how to make them become a stronger source. Throughout our assignment we have found that we have a lot of power points so we need to convert them into papers and info graphics to make them more unique. As a group we discovered that many of us made slide presentations. Because of that some members are translating their slides into papers to make the magazine more appealing to the eye. The main source of our research was done online, only two projects out of the whole group got information from a face to face interview. We learned that there are many different ways to approach an issue, but all ways can be correct. The advice we would give to other groups is to get along and work hard together. Our group worked hard whenever we had class together, and asked multiple questions so we could create the best magazine we could. Our design is very efficient and helps focus our individual issues together. Enjoy!
